Our own modern school the brain child of Mrs. Saraswathy Sundaresan and the members of her family came into being in the year 1998. On first April 1998 The Janaki Raman Educational Trust was incorporated in the name of Mr. P.N.Raman, an eminent Educationalist and his beloved wife Mrs. Janaki with Mr. Sundaresan as the Managing Trustee.
The school Our Own Modern Matric Hr. Sec. School had a humble beginning. It flagged off as a Primay School in Veerabagu Nagar, Pettai, Tirunelveli with a few or rather negligible number of children. With the untiring and ceaseless efforts put forth by the staff and the management, the school bloomed into a middle and later into a Matric Higher Secondary School.
To accommodate the increasing number of children it became imperative on the part of the management to have a bigger area with spacious classrooms. So the management which had of 1.8 acres in its possession, constructed a building in the calm and quite place Shastri Nagar, Suthamalli in 2002.
The first phase of the building had seven spacious rooms to its credit. It was inaugurated by Mr.Harmander Singh, the then Commissioner of Tirunelveli Municipal Corporation on 17th Feb 2002 in the august presence of Mr. and Mrs. P.N.Raman to whom the Trust is dedicated.
The very next year, thanks to both parents and teachers, the school stood proud with its first floor, followed immediately with its second floor.
Today the school looks proud with its majestic building towering all other buildings in the vicinity. The atmosphere here is so calm, serene, airy and free of pollution that visitors and parents who flock the school admire and appreciate its location.
Modern school true to its name is modern in its out look. It is a school in every sense of the word. School is a place where we come across diversified students with marked differences in learning abilities. Children, irrespective of their learning abilities are admitted and teachers groom the children paying attention to each and every child in accordance to his/her frame of mind.
Teachers here play a dual role. They are both mentors as well as parents. Yes our school teachers shoulder the entire responsibility of shaping the children’s personality. Children from other states with little or no knowledge of Tamil, are admitted even in X & XI Stds. Teachers never panic or make a hew and cry over the admissions made instead they take it as a challenge.
With Himalayan patience they take up the Herculean task of making the children familiar with the Tamil alphabets followed by words and short sentences and ultimately to the lessons prescribed. The attention given is such that by the time they appear for the board exam they become so masterly in the language that like any other child they are able to score not less than 75 to 80 percent in the public exam conducted by the Tamil Nadu. It’s a feat , a feather on our cap.
Ours is a service oriented institution. We don’t go after results, results come our doors steps in honour of the dedicated work executed by our teachers.
To make the class interesting and to keep the children motivated in studies and retain the knowledge acquired in school we have smart class. Apart from smart class to instill moral values in children we have movie shows now and then.
We also have Yoga, Karate, Chess and Art and Drawing classes in school. We conduct competitions almost every month to boost up the competitive spirit in the children .Sports day is conducted with all exuberance. Children enjoy to their full participating in different events. It’s a day for the children to unleash their talent in sports.
Diwali and Pongal are also celebrated in a grand manner. Sweet Pongal and White Pongal are cooked in the school in big pots. Teachers and children take an active part in the preparation and once done, the Pongal is offered to the Sun God and then distributed to the whole school. This way children are made familiar with our Indian Culture, taught to share, mix and mingle freely, co-operate and extend a helping hand when needed.
The taste of the pudding is in eating. True to the statement our school from a humble start of meagre seventeen students has now scaled to host around Nine Hundred Students.
Thanks to faith entrusted on us by the parents. We in the days to come propose to construct one more wing to embrace the children who knock our doors seeking entrance.
